If you have been anywhere on watch YouTube over the past few years, you will undoubtedly know The MAD Watch Collector. Known for his light-hearted, honest reviews and bold personality, his videos have been viewed millions of times for opinions and humorous views on these little machines we all love. Hanhart is one of the many brands regularly featured on the channel, making this collaboration even more fun. The MAD Preventor HD12 adds a new colour to the model range and reduces its case size down to 36mm offering a more compact experience in a limited edition release.

Key Features of the MAD Preventor HD12
Lean, Mean, and Green.
The MAD Preventor expands on the current lineup with the introduction of the forest green dial. The colour is meant to celebrate Hanhart’s watchmaking history in the Black Forest. I am on record as saying my favourite colour is green, especially forest green. This version of Black Forest green they have chosen really hits the mark, being a matte finish to contrast and bring out the white numerals for ultimate legibility. The numerals have been treated with a Super-Luminova C3 X2 coating to give fantastic low light performance, a distinct upgrade from the C1 previously used. The Pioneer DNA carries over to this model using the same cathedral style hands used on the other Pioneers, bringing an elegance to the watch and allowing it to be a watch for any occasion.
Small but Mighty
The case size for this model has been reduced to 36mm, as a response to many requests for a more compact size for the Pioneer model line. The change from 39mm to 36mm is a big (but small) change, giving the option of a smaller model without any compromise. Russell from The MAD Watch Collector suggested that Hanhart retain the 20mm lug width, even on the reduced case size. The result is this robust, balanced look that provides hidden utility through the expanded options of strap choices at 20mm. This also means if you already own a Pioneer, you can swap out straps between them. Speaking of the strap, this model will be available on a matching steel bracelet with tool-free fine adjustment or one of their excellent calfskin leather straps, both with quick release functionality.

Bullet-proof Beauty
The 36mm version does not compromise on the lineup’s toughness either, with this model receiving the same HD12 treatment. In short, the steel is slowly combined with carbon creating a stronger surface and is then given a PVD treatment to provide further hardness and scratch resistance. The result is an awe-inspiring 1,200 HV (Vickers Hardness scale) which is over 400 times harder than traditional 316L steel. It also features a large (for the case size at least) screw-down crown, giving it a 15 ATM water resistance rating which is way more than needed on a field watch. Sitting inside of that tough case is a reliable Sellita SW200-1, that has been regulated by Hanhart at 0 to +8 seconds a day where Hanhart’s philosophy is to never let your watch make you late.

Final Thoughts
This collaboration stands as a symbol of the watch communities’ openness to listen to feedback and really implement what they want. Reducing the size to 36mm addresses the large amount of requests Hanhart has heard and the consultation of The MAD Watch Collector to ensure it is done with finesse and the user in mind stands out amongst watch manufacturers in our modern space. On top of being a symbol, the watch itself just oozes character and gives fans of the lineup a more compact and versatile option when considering a purchase. This release will surely go down well and hopefully will show others in the space that working with the community can create something great.
Pricing and availability
The MAD Preventor HD12 will be available starting today and limited to 200 pieces. Pricing is set at €1,140.00 incl. 19% VAT ($1845 CAD approx + VAT) on the calfskin strap and €1,340.00 ($2167CAD approx. + VAT) incl. 19% VAT on the steel bracelet.
