Elliot Brown Celebrates International Women’s Day Every Day

The women behind Elliot Brown

Each year on March 8, International Women’s Day offers a moment to recognize the achievements of women across every field. In watchmaking—a craft often perceived as traditional and male-dominated—the day also provides an opportunity to highlight the women whose skill and leadership continue to shape the industry. For British tool-watch brand Elliot Brown, however, this recognition is not limited to a single date on the calendar. It is woven into the fabric of the company every day.

March 8th is International Women’s Day

Elliot Brown is proud of something still relatively uncommon in watchmaking: a team with a 50/50 gender split. Within the company, women play essential roles across nearly every aspect of the business, from the technical craft of horology to logistics, production, and marketing. The result is a workplace that reflects a wide range of perspectives and talents—something the brand believes makes the business stronger.

At the technical heart of the company is Serena, Elliot Brown’s Lead Horologist. Serena is the expert responsible for the careful repair and restoration of customers’ watches, ensuring that each timepiece continues to perform as reliably as the day it left the workshop.

Supporting this work is Maia, the Servicing Assistant who helps keep the servicing department running smoothly and efficiently.

Behind the scenes, Helen, the company’s Production Manager, oversees the process that ensures every Elliot Brown watch meets the rigorous standards the brand is known for. From quality control to workflow management, her role helps maintain the consistency and durability expected of the company’s tool watches.

The journey from workshop to wrist is guided by Gemma, the Logistics Manager who ensures watches reach retailers and customers around the world seamlessly. From dispatch to delivery, her work keeps the entire supply chain moving efficiently.

And then there is Gem, who leads Elliot Brown’s marketing efforts and serves as one of the brand’s most visible voices in the watch community. Many enthusiasts—especially those attending watch events in Canada and beyond—know Gem as the friendly and knowledgeable contact who helps share the Elliot Brown story with collectors and media alike.

Interestingly, the strong presence of women at Elliot Brown reflects watchmaking’s deeper history. In the early days of the Swiss watch industry, women made up a large portion of the workforce. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, women were heavily involved in dial painting, finishing, assembly, and other specialized tasks that required patience and precision. As industrialization reshaped the industry, however, the visibility of women in horology gradually diminished, particularly in leadership and technical roles.

Today, that picture is changing once again. Across the watch world—from independent ateliers to major brands—women are increasingly visible as watchmakers, designers, executives, collectors, and journalists. Their contributions are helping to reshape the culture of horology and broaden the perspectives that guide the industry forward.

Every day is a school day

At Elliot Brown, that spirit is captured in a simple saying shared by the team: “Every day is a school day.” It reflects a culture built on learning from one another, listening to different viewpoints, and embracing ideas that strengthen the brand.

International Women’s Day may arrive once a year, but for Elliot Brown, the celebration of the women who power the company is a daily affair—and one that continues to shape the future of the brand.
