Canadian Craftsmanship for a Watch on the Move
If you’ve been following along here at The Calibrated Wrist, you’ll know that I have a soft spot for thoughtfully designed watch accessories. Watches deserve proper homes when they’re not on the wrist, and the best storage solutions tend to reflect the same philosophy that drives good watchmaking: precision, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
That’s exactly the impression I got when I first encountered Charles-Simon.

Charles-Simon Theo Watch Roll
Engineering
I met co-founder and CEO Charles Tremblay at last year’s Toronto Timepiece Show during a panel discussion I was moderating about the Canadian experience in horology. Before we stepped on stage, I had the chance to handle a few of the brand’s pieces—including the Theo watch roll and the impressive Mackenzie Watch Briefcase. The latter, in particular, struck me as a small feat of engineering, with beautifully machined components and a reassuring sense of solidity.
The Theo watch roll, though more compact, carries the same design philosophy.

Fit & Finish
Following our encounter in Toronto, Charles had a Theo sent over so that we could take a closer look. My initial appreciation for the product has only grown since. What impresses me most is the high level of finishing throughout the piece. For example, the seam at the back of the roll—where the two ends of the leather meet—is perfectly laminated so that, at certain angles, it disappears entirely. Inside, the Alcantara lining is executed with the same care. There isn’t a false stitch anywhere to be found, and the interior feels as considered as the exterior.

For travel & display
Then there are the tolerances. When the Theo is flipped into its display mode, the fit between the anodized aluminum cap and the body of the roll could hardly be tighter. The transition from travel storage to display stand is smooth and precise, giving the object a satisfying mechanical feel.

That transformation is something I don’t recall seeing executed quite this way in a watch roll before. It’s a simple idea, but an elegant one—particularly for anyone who travels frequently with a favourite watch.

Personalization
What I find equally impressive is the degree of personalization available. This goes beyond colour choices or embossed initials. Owners can also choose between three different cushion sizes, allowing the roll to better match the circumference of their wrist. That small detail makes a meaningful difference, especially for watches worn on bracelets. I’ve tested and owned a number of watch boxes and rolls over the years that either ignore this issue or attempt to universalize a solution with mixed results. The Theo, by simply offering a choice, skirts the problem entirely.

Canadian maunfacturing
Another aspect that stands out is how Charles-Simon approaches production. Every accessory is designed and handcrafted in the company’s Montreal atelier, where the process—from sketches and material preparation to machining and assembly—happens under one roof.
As Tremblay explains:
“Keeping every step of creation in-house is fundamental for our ethos. It allows us to preserve the purity of our vision, maintain meticulous control over quality, and respond with agility and intention at every stage.”

Luxury goods
Charles-Simon is certainly positioned as a luxury manufacturer. But if you happen to own a special watch—or two—it stands to reason that you might want a special place to store them as well. The Theo makes a compelling case that the accessories accompanying our watches can be just as thoughtfully designed as the watches themselves.

Pricing & Availibility
The Theo Watch Roll is ready to ship from the brand’s website. It retails for $545 CAD (or $390 USD) with personalization options and a 2-year warranty.
