Forged for the future
Fortis has long been associated with space exploration, equipping astronauts and cosmonauts with robust timepieces for missions beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Continuing this tradition, the brand introduces the Novonaut N-42 Titanium Legacy—a high-performance chronograph engineered for durability, precision, and wearability in the harshest environments. The new N-42 Titanium Legacy builds on the legendary B-42 Cosmonauts Chronograph and is the next stage in the evolution of Novonaut N-42 Collection launched in 2023. But frankly, it’s just badass.

Key Features of the Fortis N-42 Titanium Legacy Chronograph
Case, Materials, and Water Resistance
The Novonaut Titanium Legacy features a 42mm titanium case, ensuring a lightweight yet incredibly strong build. Weighing only 89 grams without the bracelet, it maintains comfort on the wrist without sacrificing robustness. With a 51mm lug-to-lug measurement and a 15mm thickness, the case has a bold presence while remaining ergonomic. However, let it be said, this is a big watch–even if it is light. Unlike other timepieces that have been trending downward in size, at a certain point a chronograph loses functionality. Its registers become too small, its scales illegible. The N-42 Titanium Legacy, therefore, isn’t just bucking a trend, it’s fulfilling a function.
Fortis has designed the Novonaut for extreme conditions, offering 200 meters of water resistance–or as the case back proclaims, “space resistance”–making it equally suited for deep-space missions and deep-sea exploration, alike. Pick your poison.

Sapphire Crystal, Bezel, and Dial Elements
The Novonaut is equipped with a high-quality sapphire crystal, providing superior scratch resistance and clarity. It has an application of anti-reflective coating on both sides, as well. The Sirius Bezel, crafted from high-performance ceramic, enhances durability while incorporating X1 Super-LumiNova for optimal legibility in low-light conditions. The matte black dial ensures a clean and highly legible display, complemented by applied X1 Lumicast numerals, which deliver exceptional nighttime visibility. The gold-plated hands, also filled with X1 Super-LumiNova, add a striking contrast to the dial, ensuring clear time-reading even in darkness.
I particularly like the steeply angled rehaut where we find the minute track. It adds significant depth and form to an otherwise matte and monochrome display. In fact, the only true colour on this dial is the T-13 marker in the sub-register at 9. This is a tribute to the final countdown before launch. The sub-dials have a fine azurage, and at 3 o’clock we have a day/date indicator.

Calibre: The Fortis Werk 17 Automatic Manufacture Movement
At the heart of the Novonaut Titanium Legacy is the Fortis Werk 17 Automatic Manufacture Calibre from partner La Joux-Perret, a column-wheel chronograph movement with a 60-hour power reserve. Designed for extreme reliability, this movement has been subjected to rigorous real-world testing. In collaboration with the Swedish Space Corporation, the Werk 17 was sent to the stratosphere aboard a gondola launched from the Esrange Space Center. Even after enduring the intense atmospheric conditions, the movement maintained its precision. Additional tests conducted during a rocket mission in 2022 further validated its resilience, reinforcing Fortis’ reputation for space-tested timekeeping.

Bracelet: Lightweight Titanium with Micro-Adjustment
The Novonaut Titanium Legacy comes fitted with a block titanium bracelet, offering both strength and comfort while keeping the overall weight of the watch to a minimum. The bracelet features a slide clasp with an integrated micro-adjustment system, allowing wearers to fine-tune the fit on the go. This feature enhances versatility, ensuring a secure and comfortable wearing experience whether in a zero-gravity environment or during everyday adventures on Earth.
