Saving time
Some watches are designed to tell the time. Others, like the Shelby MEDIC, are designed to help save it—sometimes quite literally. Conceived by Canadian first responder Matthew McMillan, the MEDIC is a purpose-built tool watch that doesn’t just sit pretty on the wrist; it’s meant to work alongside its wearer in critical moments.

Key Features of the Shelby MEDIC
Case
At first glance, the MEDIC’s 40mm case strikes a perfect middle ground between wearable comfort and instrument-like presence. Crafted from 316L stainless steel, it feels reassuringly solid at 159 grams, yet the articulated H-link bracelet—with its eight micro-adjustments, solid end links, and taper from 20mm to 18mm—ensures it never feels unwieldy. Drilled lugs make strap changes refreshingly easy, a nod to real-world practicality.

Dial
The dial is where the MEDIC’s specialist credentials truly shine (literally). Both models—the MEDIC (blue and red) and the Tactical MEDIC (black)—employ flat sapphire crystals front and back. On the dial you’ll find custom syringe hands sweeping over a clean, legible display, ringed by a bidirectional rotating bezel with two uncommon scales: a red pulsometer for measuring heart rate and a blue asthmometer for respiratory rate (these scales are done in shades on the Tactical MEDIC). Both are simple and fast to use—line up the scale with the seconds hand, count either 15 pulses or 5 breaths, and read your one-minute average. It’s an elegant analogue solution to a task most would reach for a phone to perform, bypassing the digital distractions entirely.

Calibre
Inside, Shelby’s MD 7081 automatic movement beats away at +/–10 seconds per day, offering a 42-hour power reserve. It’s visible through the sapphire case back—a rare treat in a watch so unabashedly functional. Water resistance is rated to 150 metres, so whether you’re on duty in a rainstorm or diving on a weekend off, the MEDIC is ready.

Lume
In the full lume MEDIC, Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 lights up the dial, hands, and bezel in icy blue, while the Tactical MEDIC variant opts for C3’s green glow. A lumed date wheel with a beveled window ensures information is always easy to read, day or night.

Purpose built
The MEDIC doesn’t pretend to be a dress watch—it’s here for the job. Yet there’s a certain understated beauty in its precision and purpose. From the custom lumed date wheel to the screw-in bracelet links, every element has been thought through. It’s the kind of watch that reassures you just by being there, quietly doing what it was built to do.

The MEDIC earns is place on the wrist, whether you’re on the job or simply appreciate the fusion of purpose and craftsmanship.
