Space, The Final Frontier
Every so often, I’ll drive out of the city where the light pollution no longer blocks the view of the stars, stare up and get lost in the beauty of the night sky as I lay on the hood of my Hyundai Elantra. I’ve always been satisfied with space and its mysterious and intriguing void, and when it comes to watches, if it has to do with space, I’m in. On my desk are two gorgeous watches that, to no surprise, spark that inner child to get lost in the finer details: the Selten Series 00.00 Natural Meteorite and 00.04 Aventurine

Key Features of the Selten 00.00 & 00.04
While reviewing two watches in one article is slightly uncommon, I don’t think I could have done it any other way. Both watches feature absurdly beautiful dials: the 00.00 is made from a natural meteorite, and the 00.04 has an Aventurine dial that twinkles like the night sky. It’s effortless to lose yourself in the dials, and I’ll be honest: I had these watches in my hands more than on my wrist as I stared at every detail.

While aesthetics are important when buying a watch, the most significant factor is the wearing experience; the Series 00 is fantastic if you want a summary. In all seriousness, both 00.00 and 00.04 feel great on the wrist. Both watches share the same specs: a 40mm case diameter, 48mm lug-to-lug, and a thickness of 13mm. I found the watches on my wrist wore smaller than the 40mm listed, thanks to the lug-to-lug and curvature of the lugs. While 13mm is on the thicker side, I can assure you, it doesn’t affect how the watches feel on the wrist.

The folks at Selten allowed me to check out their bracelets and leather straps (00.00 on the bracelet and 00.04 on the leather), both of which are extremely comfortable options. The bracelet makes the watch feel more sporty and adds heft to the wearing experience, but it doesn’t make it feel clumsy or cumbersome. I didn’t think it was possible, but the leather strap makes these watches look even more elegant, especially with the 00.04 Aventurine.

The true stars (star and space rock?) of the show are the dials. The implementation of meteorite for 00.00 and the sparkling beauty of 00.04 make both watches look way more expensive than their actual price tag, which is fantastic–a look of luxury while not breaking the bank, especially with the day/night complication at 6:00. Both watches feature different dial materials but share the same applied indices and Breguet-styled hands. Long story short, they look gorgeous.

Quibbles
Don’t get me wrong; I love both watches. They’re fantastic, both in design and in how they feel on my wrist. However, I’ve mentioned one slight issue in the past: the implementation of a movement that has a date, but the watch design cancels it out. I’m a fan of no date on a watch, and I love that the Series 00 doesn’t have a date, but it technically does. The movement powering the Series 00 (the Miyota 9132) does have a date complication, meaning there’s a ghost position in the crown; you can feel the date change in the first position. While this is a small detail, it’s one I think is worth noting.

Final Thoughts
What else is there to say? The Series 00 is a fantastic collection accessible to all collectors ($699 on leather and $749 on bracelet). It features incredible dials, design, and an excellent wearing experience. I recommend checking one out if you can, and if you’re interested in getting one for yourself, feel free to visit the brand website.
