Is your fifth pocket empty? Then why not fill it with the HexEdge Ti from RZE. The titanium watchmaker is taking a second stab (pardon the pun) at the world of everyday carry with their new microblade, and this time–like their watches–it’s awash in luscious titanium.

This December, RZE will take to Kickstarter for the launch of the HexEdge Ti, which—although small—offers up the utility of a full size blade, and looks good while doing it. The RZE HexEdge Ti is definitely aimed at those who like to fidget. Its front flip action is quick and smooth with a satisfying snap past the hidden frame lock. Its size makes it perfect for everyday adventures, and at only 2.7” when closed, it will fit nicely in your hip pocket.

The knife weighs only 60 grams, or 2.11oz, thanks to its milled, Grade 5 Titanium scales, which feature the brand’s telltale geometric DNA. Grade 5 Titanium is an alloy known particularly for its strength and low ductility (ease of bending). Aside from its use in knives—or watches, for that matter—it is most often found in marine-craft, aircraft, and spacecraft construction, because of its tensil strength to weight ratio. It also has anti-corrosive qualities and is hypoallergenic.

The HexEdge Ti is equipped with a clip point blade, which is 1.66” and fashioned from D2 tool grade steel. D2 is a high carbon high chromium steel. It is popular in die steels for its high resistance to wear. The blade has also been coated in titanium. This Nitride application helps reduce friction and strengthens the edge against premature breakdown. When open, the knife is 4.37” in length.

The HexEdge is also fitted with a deep pocket carry clip and can be easily fastened to a lanyard or a keyring, as well—making it a practical inclusion to your EDC gear.
In addition to the blade itself, there is a convenient pry bar at the rear end, which could be used—if for nothing else—as a handy way to pop the cap your favourite beverage.

Final Thoughts
The RZE HexEdge Ti has clearly been engineered as an affordable bit of kit that maximizes utility and favourizes durability. It cuts a pleasing silhouette, with its ergonomic design, and I really like the muted tones of the various metal surfaces. They make the use of orange in the joint stud really pop. While there is an aesthetically pleasing quality to its minimalism, the knife also feels solid and robust in hand and has obviously been built to last.
Retailing for only $69 USD, the HexEdge will be live on Kickstarter as of December 20th. For more information, hit up the brand website.
