Furlan Marri Introduces the Meteorite Octa Mechaquartz Chronograph

By Brent Robillard

Meteorite Octa

Furlan Marri has expanded its Mechaquartz collection with the introduction of the Meteorite Octa, a limited pre-order release that builds on the design language established at the brand’s launch. Available exclusively between April 10 and 20, 2026, the model continues the brand’s focus on mid-century chronograph cues, while introducing a dial material that carries a markedly different origin.

François Borgel

The broader collection draws from the work of François Borgel, a case maker known for his patented screw-down designs in the late 19th century and his influence on early waterproof chronograph construction. That reference point is visible in the case architecture here, which measures 38 mm in diameter with a 46 mm lug-to-lug span and a thickness of 12 mm. The stainless steel case combines polished, brushed, and perlage finishes, with a decagonal screw-down caseback that has been deeply engraved. Rounded “Tasti Tondi” pushers reinforce the historical direction, while the compact proportions are maintained through the use of a hybrid movement.

Seiko VK64

Inside is the Seiko VK64, a mechaquartz calibre that pairs quartz timekeeping with a mechanical chronograph module. This format allows for a sweeping central seconds hand, an instantaneous reset, and a pusher feel that recalls traditional chronographs. The movement choice has been consistent for the brand since its Kickstarter debut and remains central to how these watches balance case proportions with functionality. The chronograph is paired with a pulsometer scale calibrated for 15 pulsations, a detail rooted in early medical chronographs and carried forward here without modification.

Muonionalusta meteorite

The defining element of this release is the dial. Each piece is cut from Muonionalusta meteorite, an iron meteorite estimated to have formed more than 4.5 billion years ago within the core of an asteroidal body. After falling to Earth over a million years ago near present-day Sweden and Finland, the material remained buried through successive ice ages before its discovery in 1906. When prepared for watch dials, the meteorite reveals Widmanstätten patterns—crystalline structures that form through extremely slow cooling in space and cannot be replicated artificially. As a result, each dial carries a distinct configuration.

Sandwich construction adds depth

Depth

Furlan Marri has built the dial using a sandwich construction, adding depth to what is already a complex surface. Applied Roman numerals, double-printed indications, and a domed outer ring contribute to legibility without departing from the vintage framework of the collection. The sub-dials and outer track are given a matte finish to contrast with the reflective qualities of the meteorite itself, while curved hands follow the same domed profile seen across the range.

Furlan Marri

Founded in 2021 by Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri, the brand has centred its early releases on historically informed chronograph design, combined with contemporary production methods. The Meteorite Octa continues along that path, retaining the core structure of the Mechaquartz line while introducing a material that shifts the visual character of the watch without altering its underlying format.
