Omega Speedmaster 2026: Reverse Panda Dial Moonwatch in Steel & Moonshine™ Gold

By Brent Robillard

Winter Time

Few watches stir the collective imagination of enthusiasts quite like the Omega Speedmaster. Every new release is met with equal parts excitement and scrutiny, celebration and debate. It’s the price of being the Moonwatch, a cultural icon that lives simultaneously as a professional instrument, a piece of history, and a modern luxury object. But as Omega opens 2026 with not one, but two new Speedmaster Moonwatch references, it feels like the brand has struck an especially harmonious chord. One of these comes in stainless steel, meaning this isn’t just a dream-watch announcement—it’s one that remains genuinely attainable for real-world collectors.

Key Features of the Omega Speedmaster Reverse Panda Dial Moonwatch

Inverted Panda Dial

Both new models reinterpret the familiar Speedmaster aesthetic through an inverted dial configuration that flips the traditional black-on-white layout into something visually striking and surprisingly fresh. Omega has retained the Moonwatch’s signature stepped dial construction, now executed with a clever double-plate design. The top plate is polished black and finished with varnish and lacquer, giving it a deep, liquid-like sheen (not unlike the 2024 Seamaster Aqua Terra), while the subdials sit on a white base layer below, also lacquered for clarity and contrast. Rhodium-plated frames surround the subdials, subtly elevating the sense of precision and craftsmanship. The minute track is transferred in white on the main dial, while the subdials reverse that treatment with black printing, reinforcing the “negative” aesthetic while enhancing legibility.

Familiar features

Framing the dial is a black ceramic bezel filled with a white enamel tachymeter scale, a combination that feels both contemporary and entirely Speedmaster. Above it all sits a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, preserving the vintage profile while delivering modern durability and clarity. On the wrist, both watches are fitted with the familiar polished-brushed Moonwatch bracelet, complete with Omega’s patented comfort release adjustment system.

Gold vs Steel

The 42mm case remains unchanged in dimension, but the two material executions give these releases very different personalities. The stainless steel version is likely to be the enthusiast favourite, pairing practicality with timeless design. Its hands and hour markers are rhodium-plated and filled with white Super-LumiNova, keeping the look crisp, technical, and purpose-driven. It feels like a Speedmaster that leans into its tool watch heritage while embracing a bold, modern visual twist.

The second version elevates the concept into unmistakably luxurious territory. Crafted in Omega’s proprietary 18K Moonshine™ Gold, the case brings warmth and depth to the inverted dial layout. The hour and minute hands, subdial hands, and markers are all executed in Moonshine™ Gold with white Super-LumiNova, while the central chronograph hand receives a PVD Moonshine™ Gold finish for added contrast. It’s opulent, yes, but still unmistakably a Speedmaster—refined without losing its technical soul.

Calibre 3861

Under the hood, both models are powered by Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. This movement represents the most advanced evolution of the legendary Calibre 321 that once accompanied astronauts to the Moon. With Master Chronometer certification, the 3861 guarantees exceptional precision, resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, and long-term reliability. Add in Omega’s five-year warranty, and these watches offer not just history and aesthetics, but serious modern performance.

Final Thoughts

The new Speedmaster Reverse Panda Moonwatch doesn’t reinvent the wheel, and it is doubtful that any other watch simply switching up its dial colourway would receive the same moment of reverence; however, that speaks to the strength of the Speedmaster and its storied past–reminding us that the Moonwatch continues to matter generation after generation. And the inclusion of a stainless steel model ensures that this excitement isn’t reserved solely for collectors chasing precious metals. This is a Speedmaster moment that invites broad participation, thoughtful discussion, and, most likely, very few genuine criticisms.

The new Speedmasters will retail in Canada for $13,200 (310.30.42.50.01.004) and $62,600(310.60.42.50.01.002) , respectively.
