Over the last few years, Portland-based watch brand Vero has released some impressive timepieces, with the Open Water Diver and the Workhorse Chronograph. Vero has unveiled a new addition to their collection that aligns with their previous tool watches—a field watch that is perfect for those looking to take on the challenging trails or to have a relaxing weekend spent sitting on the dock, having a cold one. We’re talking about the new Vero Meridian Manual Wind.

“Traversing deserts or mountains, the Meridian Manual Wind is your companion, giving you the time at a glance without taking your time.”

The Meridian Manual Wind is a simple and compact field watch aligning with Vero’s design language regarding a genuine tool watch; clean and minimalistic, designed to do the job right, but the colour options offer a subtle hint of flare and variety, which look fantastic. The Meridian Manual Wind recently joined filmmaker Matt Costa on adventures and treks through landscapes at 10,000 feet while creating his newest film, “Katabatic Flight,” which represents the adventure of life and a true test of what the Meridian Manual Wind is capable of.

“Powered by our past, focus on the present, and look forward to the future. The Meridian Manual Wind contains the DNA of watches from our past but executed at the ever-increasing quality standards we have today.”

The Meridian Manual Wind features a compact form factor with a 38mm stainless steel case, 44.5mm lug-to-lug and a case thickness of 9.4mm (including the flat sapphire crystal.) The 18mm lug width calls for an 18mm bracelet, which blends well with the overall design, and features the NodeX (created by Nodus) push button clasp with micro-adjustments and quick-release spring bars for quick strap/bracelet changes. The Meridian features two dial variations, the Rally (white) and Rambler (blue), and features markers and hands packed with Swiss Super-Luminova, which provide 15 hours of glow when fully charged.

“Assembled in our shop in Portland, Oregon, the Meridian Manual Wind has a 38mm case width and is 44.5mm lug-to-lug. It is a field watch fit for equal parts daring adventure and weekend leisure. Thanks to the svelte 9.4mm thin case, the Meridian wears effortlessly from its exhibition caseback to flush sapphire crystal.”

The choice of a manual winding movement for the Meridian pairs wonderfully with the vintage aesthetic. Vero selected a hand-winding movement to connect the watch and the wearer. Each wind of the crown gives the movement power, bringing the watch to life, and the movement in question is the Sellita SW-210-01 decorated with custom black rhodium plating, heat-treated blue screws and “snail-finished” gears; the movement looks gorgeous through the sapphire display case back.

“The relationship between humans and our tools goes back millennia. We chose a manual wind movement for the Meridians to enhance this enduring connection. Each time the watch is wound, you give it life, and in return, it gives you the opportunity to measure your time — you get back what you put in.”
