True north strong and free
Marathon Watch has once again demonstrated its commitment to producing robust and reliable timepieces with the introduction of the OSAR-D Arctic Edition. Unveiled on April 1, 2025, during the Time to Watches exhibition in Geneva, this latest addition to the Original Search and Rescue with Date (OSAR-D) collection brings a fresh aesthetic and enhanced functionality to the brand’s esteemed lineup. And, well, it just looks great.

Key Features of the Marathon OSAR-D Arctic White Dial
Case and Dimensions
The OSAR-D Arctic Edition maintains the sturdy construction synonymous with Marathon’s military-grade timepieces, and obviously draws much of its inspiration from last year’s black-dialed OSAR-D—though there are a few changes here. Crafted from solid 316L stainless steel, the case measures 41mm in diameter and 14mm in thickness, striking a balance between presence and wearability. This size ensures the watch is substantial enough for demanding operations while remaining comfortable for daily use.

Dial and Bezel
A standout feature of this model is its Arctic white dial, designed to enhance legibility in bright and snow-blind conditions. The dial showcases a bold mix of circle and block markers with an inverted triable in the 12 o’clock position. The watch also has a fine black minute track around the outside of the dial, providing a stark contrast that facilitates quick time reading. Notably, the hour markers feature black surrounds with divots that are filled with the brand’s proprietary MaraGlo luminescent material, a design evolution that enhances nighttime visibility. But even in the daylight, the black surrounds and cream-coloured markers really pop. Apparently, these surrounds were originally considered for last year’s OSAR-D, but make much more sense here on the Arctic dial.
Framing this dial is a black unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale, allowing for precise tracking of elapsed time during critical missions, or precise timing for your flatbread pizza—which can be equally critical. The bezel action, of course, is snappy and satisfying. With its brash gear-like nodes, the bezel is also designed to be easily operable in the field while wearing gloves.

Movement
At the heart of the OSAR-D Arctic Edition is the reliable Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of up to 41 hours. This movement is renowned for its accuracy and ease of service, making it a fitting choice for a tool watch designed for rigorous use.

Water Resistance and Lume
Engineered for professional diving operations, the watch boasts a water resistance of up to 30 ATM (300 meters), ensuring reliability under substantial underwater pressure. The use of MaraGlo luminescent material on the hands and indices (as well as the bezel pip) ensures exceptional readability in low-light conditions, a critical feature for search and rescue professionals. And prepping for early morning hockey practices with the kids.

Strap and Wearability
The OSAR-D Arctic Edition is available with two strap options: a black silicone strap that complements the watch’s utilitarian design and offers flexibility, and a stainless steel bracelet that adds a touch of refinement. Both options are designed to provide comfort and durability, catering to the diverse needs of its wearers.

Hands-On Experience
Having had the opportunity to handle the OSAR-D Arctic Edition at the Time to Watches event in Geneva, the watch’s build quality and attention to detail are immediately apparent. The new hour markers with black surrounds and MaraGlo-filled divots are particularly striking, offering both aesthetic appeal and functional enhancement. Additionally, previewing the upcoming 36mm and 46mm versions revealed Marathon’s dedication to accommodating various wrist sizes and preferences, ensuring that the OSAR-D collection remains versatile and inclusive.
I also think it is a thoughtful move on the part of the brand to allow enthusiasts a forward glance at what’s to come, should they prefer to hold off for a more suitable wrist companion. Many other brands wouldn’t.

Final Thoughts
The Marathon OSAR-D Arctic Edition is a testament to the brand’s dedication to producing timepieces that meet the exacting standards of military and search and rescue professionals. Its combination of durable construction, reliable movement, and enhanced legibility features make it a compelling choice for those seeking a watch that performs exceptionally in the most demanding environments. And, as mentioned earlier, it’s simply a handsome diver. I think the black surrounds look fantastic and really solidify legibility.
Personally, I wear the brand’s SSNAV almost every weekend for working around the property and carrying out the honey-do list for everything from taking out the trash to cutting brush and tending to home renovations. It has never crossed my mind to take it off for any of these activities. The OSAR-D Arctic Dial is one of those kind of watches, too. It will take all you throw at it. No mission required.

Heavenly!
The original SAR was in production from 2001-2006 and is considered a classic. — windycitywatchcollector.com
Marathon have a solid reputation in the field. These re-releases (both in black and white) have been very popular sellers based on the success of that earlier model.
I have one of the original GSARs, an early production SSNAV, as well as the original NAV in both green and black. As a CAF veteran, I was issued Marathon and ADANAC manual-wind watches. All are excellent watches. They are robust , accurate and a pleasure to wear.
That’s great to hear. And, thank you for your service.
This would look great on my wrist. Arctic White, 41mm, is definitely the way to go on this one
