OMEGA presents Christa Deguchi with a congratulatory watch at Paris 2024

A golden moment in time

Christa Deguchi took home more hardware than she expected last week, when President and CEO of OMEGA, Raynald Aeschlimann, presented the Olympic medalist with an exclusive Paris 2024 timepiece.

The gift was a congratulatory one. On the 29th of July, Deguchi became Canada’s first gold medalist at the Olympic Games in Paris. She is also the first Canadian ever to win a gold medal in Judo at the games.

Christa claimed her victory in the Women’s 57kg weight, and—following her inspiring performance—was invited to OMEGA House, the brand’s exclusive Paris home for the Olympic Games. There, Christa was surprised with a new Seamaster Diver 300M Paris 2024 Edition.

Crafted in stainless steel and 18K Moonshine Gold—the very metal Deguchi strove for—the watch features a laser-engraved dial produced in white ceramic, and a commemorative medallion on the case back highlighting the distinctive elements of the Paris 2024 emblem.

In her gold medal match, Deguchi faced off against the world number three Huh Mimi of South Korea. The close fought bout went into “golden score”—or sudden death—where Huh Mimi took a penalty (shido) leaving Deguchi the winner.

To get there, the Canadian also advanced past fan favourite, Sarak Leonie Cysique of France in her semi-final match.

Deguchi is Canada’s most decorated jukoda, having previously won world titles in 2019 and 2023. She was also the silver medalist in the IJF World Championships earlier this year—having lost to Huh in the final. Deguchi’s win in Paris must have been all the sweeter as a result.

OMEGA Timing

As Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games, OMEGA is measuring every event at Paris 2024 and is recording the exploits of all those who compete. The timekeeper, therefore, captured Deguchi’s Deguchi’s gold medal moment and later rewarded her for the achievement.
