New Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono in Turquoise & Steel
Hamilton have added an attractive colourway to last year’s all new Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono. The radially brushed turquoise seems particularly appropriate for Easter Sunday, but will look good any day of the year next to the stainless steel tachymeter bezel.

The Jazzmaster Collection is a broad one, but expanded further last year to include three new chronographs in black, navy blue, and white/gold PVD. This latest iteration picks up where those left off, treading the line between sporty and chic.
Hamilton, of course, is well known for its rich history of chronographs. The Intra-Matic is one of the brand’s best-sellers to this day. But unlike those aviation-inspired clocks, the Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono is a nod to car culture and the speedway. Comparisons to the Daytona cannot be overstated, for instance, with those emblematic ringed sub-registers at three, six, and nine. However, this latest turquoise edition is perhaps the most distinctly “Hamilton-esque.” Despite sharing a similar dial tone to the 50th Anniversary Cosmograph, the addition of a much more utilitarian steel bezel sets the new timepiece apart.

Key Features of the Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono
The turquoise edition of the Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono is also quite conservative in its use of additional colour–opting for the stark contrast of white, and white alone. It appears in the sub-dials, but is also repeated in the chapter ring where we find a printed minute track with numerals on the fives.
Other than the bezel, the stainless steel case remains faithful to last year’s design. It measures 42mm in diameter and 15.22mm thick. The lug width is 22mm and the watch is just over 50mm long. The finish is a mix of brushing for the most part, with circular brushing over the lugs and bezel and vertical brushing on the mid-case. There is a chamfer of polish that divides those surfaces running lug to lug, and the steel bezel is also polished where it meets the case.

I really like the case profile of this watch and the way the polished oblong pushers are integrated into the inward slope of the mid-case. The signed crown is screwed down, and through the display case back, you get a good view of the H31 movement which powers the watch. The partially skeletonized rotor is decorated with a lattice-work cut out of the Hamilton logo. The bridge also sports the iconic “H”. The calibre is a variation of the ETA 7753 and features a Nivachron balance spring with a 60-hour power reserve. The watch is rated to 100m of water resistance.

The Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono is equipped with a slightly cambered sapphire crystal, under which we get the classic 3, 6, 9 sub-dial layout. Each of the registers has a fine azurage (or, record album finish). The watch has dauphine hands and an arrow-tipped central chronograph hand. In addition, there is a running seconds, a 12-hour counter, and 30-minute indicator. The hour indices are applied and treated with a slender application of Super-LumiNova. There is also a date window at 4:30.

Overall, the design here is a clean one with a highly legible dial. The radial brushing provides for attractive reflections and varies with the light. Next to the steel bezel, the dial really pops.

This newest model comes standard on a gently tapered Oyster-style bracelet. It is brushed throughout and put together with push pins. The butterfly clasp provides for a pleasing visual continuity and there are a couple of half-links in the bracelet to help you attain the perfect fit.

Final Thoughts
I feel as though last year’s launch of the Jazzmaster Performer Auto Chrono flew a little under the radar next to the collection’s three-hander additions. This turquoise iteration may be my favourite of them all, however. With summer not far off in the northern hemisphere, I could see this as a popular choice for the warmer weather. The particular hue Hamilton have chosen is quite sharp, and it looks very classy in the steel on steel case arrangement. The movement is a proven quantity and the fact that the crown is screw down with 100m of water resistance should instil confidence.
