Celebrating 75 Years with the Seamaster
When Omega released the 11 references that would make up the Seamaster’s 75th Anniversary Collection in Summer Blue, two timepieces stood out to me—the Ultra Deep and the Planet Ocean 600M. A third, the Ploprof, also caught my eye, but has of yet eluded me in the metal.
But while the Ultra Deep is a marvel of engineering—and simply a great watch—the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M is certainly the more wrist-friendly of the two, and a sure contender (for me) as one of the best releases of 2023.

Key Features of the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Diver
First launched in 2005, the Planet Ocean is the cadet of the Seamaster Collection. The earliest iterations measured 43.5mm in diameter and wore large. But in the Planet Ocean pantheon, Omega did have more restrained models—at 39.5mm—albeit marketed as “ladies.” The Planet Ocean in Summer Blue takes those specs and repurposes them for “gents.”

While the lug-to-lug measurement shrinks proportionately to a very comfortable 45.6mm, to achieve its 600m water resistance rating, the watch comes in at a chunky 14.2mm in height. Given these dimensions, you might think the Planet Ocean would feel top heavy, or unbalanced, on wrist. But, surprisingly, the watch is extremely wearable.

The new Planet Ocean 600M maintains all other the elements enthusiasts have come to expect—the helium escape valve, lavish Super-LumiNova, a ceramic bezel insert, and a recognizable dial layout. However, there are a few differences in the design, as well.

For one, the Planet Ocean 600M in Summer Blue features a solid case back with a newly rendered Poseidon motif, surfing the waves on two seahorses—reminiscent of the original 1956 design.

The second difference is, of course, the dial. Like the bezel, it has been fashioned from ceramic, but covered in a brushed blue PVD coating. The gradient appears pale at the centre of the watch and darkest in the chapter ring, as though you were swimming upward toward a pool of light on the surface of the sea. It also sports two-toned Super-LumiNova
Of the entire 75th Anniversary Collection, only the Ultra Deep has a nicer dial.

The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M is equipped with 8800 Master Chronometer-certified co-axial movement. It provides for a 55- hour power reserve and also offers a date function at 3 o’clock. The calibre is METAS-approved and, as such, is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
The standard bracelet is a stainless steel three-link with a milled foldover butterfly clasp. It also features a comfort, on-the-fly, micro-adjust mechanism.

Final Thoughts
The OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Diver is a luxury watch, through and through. As such, it carries a luxury price tag. However, it is difficult not to think that this level of over-engineering, with its Master Chronometer Co-Axial movement, helium escape valve, and 600m of water resistance (not to mention its case and dial finishing)—is not more than fairly situated in the market.
The watch does not rewrite the book on the Seamaster Planet Ocean, but it does a nice job celebrating the collection’s achievement throughout the years with a highly wearable, robust diver that will not go unnoticed on wrist.
