Three years ago, RZE brought the horological world the Resolute field watch. Several iterations—and countless adventures—later, the evolution may well be complete. Welcome to the Resolute Pro.

One of the many things I appreciate about RZE, is its adherence to an aesthetic. In the same way that I can immediately recognise the writing of Ernest Hemingway or Cormac McCarthy or Virginia Woolf, there is an identifiable quality to everything RZE produces—a discernible language. Despite multiple case and dial designs, there is a particular angularity and a manner of legibility achieved using contrasting colour that is specific to RZE.

As such, the Resolute Pro will certainly appear at once familiar and new. The 40mm case features all the signature elements—sharp angles, sloping planes, and industrial finishing. It is crafted, as expected, from the brand’s proprietary Grade 2 UltraHex Titanium, and comes in at a very svelte 10.5mm in thickness and an equally wearable 46mm lug to lug.

While RZE has been producing its titanium H-link bracelet for a few years now, it has undergone some changes here which will now be standard on the Resolute Pro. Upgrades include the custom engineered clasp, which now features “on-the-fly” micro-adjustment. This allows for easy alteration throughout the day as your wrist expands or contracts, assuring a relaxed fit. Like the case, the bracelet and clasp also use precisely angled chamfering for a comfortable wrist experience. And both are treated with the scratch resistant UtlraHex coating. Together, watch and bracelet weigh only 120g.

The sterile case back and geared crown are both screw down and employ VITON gaskets to help ensure 100m of water resistance. Underneath that case back is the ubiquitous Miyota 90S5 workhorse, which beats away at 4Hz. This model has a customised date wheel to support the no date dial and avoid a ghost position on the crown. It also has a 42-hour power reserve.

The greatest departure for the Resolute Pro is the dial itself, which features a heated-enamel finish and applied markers. The customised handset and all hour indicators have been generously treated with Super-LumiNova and contribute to the clean legibility of the design–which now blends elements of past dials into one. Modified baton markers are reminiscent of the original layout. However, the dial keeps its inverted triangle at twelve from the 2022 iteration. The reworked logo, for its part appears to float mysteriously above the colour field. The Pro sports a sapphire crystal, as well, with an undercoat of Super-AR to cut down on unwanted reflections in the field.

Beyond the White and Medallion Yellow references featured here, RZE has previously released a Jet Black model.

Of Interest
The crew behind RZE is making a concerted effort to build more than watches. And I’m not just referring to the new EDC gear and related equipment. I’m talking about the growing RZE community. If you haven’t had the opportunity to check out the brand’s R’ZINE, do yourself a favour and explore the everyday adventures of people like David Andreev or Pete Elliot.

Quibbles
Titanium construction. Solid movement. Enamel dial. On-the-fly adjustment. For $600 bucks? That’ll do.

Final Thoughts
I am not a believer in the adage, “You are only as good as your last result.” The Resolute was a good watch in 2021. It was also a good watch as a redesign in 2022. While RZE has continued to shape and reshape the watch into what you see here in the Resolute Pro, it is not so much a “casting off” of what was done before, as it is building on a successful foundation. The changes here are incremental. But they demonstrate a commitment to craft and to the RZE community–who are ultimately the benefactors of all this tinkering and tweaking. I’d like to propose that at RZE, you’re only as good as your next result…and all of the preceding results that get you there.
The White and Medallion Yellow RZE Resolute Pro models come available for pre-order this December for US$629. For more information, please visit the brand website.
