Top Five Watches of Summer 2025

Because Sweat-Proof Style Matters

I have no doubt that the summer of 2025 will go down as the hottest one I’ve lived through yet. Not just uncomfortable or muggy—but downright apocalyptic. Forecasters have started using a term I’ve never heard before: heat dome. Sounds like the name of a B-movie or a lost Mad Max sequel, but it’s real. A suffocating system of scorching heat and humidity has parked itself over Ontario and Quebec, turning every casual stroll into a sweat-drenched endurance test.

In these conditions, you find yourself reaching for certain types of watches again and again—pieces that aren’t just cool in the metaphorical sense, but that actually handle the heat. So while The Calibrated Wrist doesn’t often do “Top 5” lists, this summer practically cries out for one. The only condition for inclusion here? I had to have worn every one of these watches myself—sometimes in the heat, often in the sun, and (on more than one occasion) down to the lake.

Let’s dive in.

1. Longines Legend Diver 39mm White Dial

Full review here

The moment I strapped this on, I knew it would be a summer staple. The white dial pops like fresh laundry on a clothesline, crisp and clean against tanned skin. At 39mm, the case is wonderfully proportioned, and the internal rotating bezel keeps things classically cool without adding bulk. You could strap this on for an outdoor picnic, a day at the beach, or even a backyard wedding—and somehow, it would always feels appropriate. Cool as cucumber water.

2. Tudor Pelagos Ultra

Full review here

This one’s like wearing a titanium ice cube on your wrist. The Pelagos Ultra is everything I want in a summer watch: lightweight, ultra-durable, and so overbuilt it practically laughs in the face of heatstroke. You could sport this one during early-morning swims, trail hikes, and rooftop patio sessions, alike. And thanks to that beautifully designed clasp, it will remain infinitely adjustable as the humours of your body ebb and flow. Bonus: the lume is so strong it basically doubles as a flashlight if the power goes out (and let’s face it—with this heat, it might).

3. YEMA Yachtingraf Croisière x seconde/seconde/

Full review here

This one’s for the days when you just want to smile. While the rest of my picks are relatively understated, this collaboration between YEMA and seconde / seconde / is a full-on splash of absurdity. It’s cheeky. It’s unexpected. It makes no sense—and yet, it completely does. The sea-spray colourway, the playful seconds hand, and the sailboat graphic are summer distilled into wrist form. I wore it once with a linen shirt and got three compliments before coffee. It’s not serious. That’s the point.

4. MIDO Ocean Star GMT – Gold PVD

Full review here

Yes, it’s gold. No, it’s not too much. The MIDO Ocean Star GMT in Gold PVD is what I’d call beach club luxury — bold enough to make a statement but never loud enough to be gauche. The PVD treatment is guaranteed against sunscreen and saltwater (okay, I made that part up), and the dual-time functionality is ideal for anyone bouncing between time zones or, let’s be honest, between poolside naps and patio dinners. Somehow, it feels even better when the sun’s going down and the tan lines are setting in.

5. Doxa SUB 200

Full review here

Some watches demand to be worn in summer, and the Doxa SUB 200 is one of them. It’s not flashy, but it has that unmistakable Doxa DNA: the cushion case, the vintage dive vibes, and the kind of presence that says, “Yes, I know how to drive a boat” (even if you don’t). More importantly, it’s super comfortable on the beads-of-rice. Look for this one at backyard BBQs, canoe trips, and spontaneous night swims (sans undies).  The watch doesn’t care. it just keeps doing its thing—reliably and effortlessly.

Final Thoughts: Sweat-Proof, Sun-Ready, Tan-Approved

Let’s be clear—these aren’t necessarily the most colourful watches of the year, nor the quirkiest. They weren’t chosen for their hype, or their hashtags. I picked them because they work in the real world, especially when that world is sweltering. These are watches that don’t complain about humidity, don’t chafe against a swollen wrist, and don’t look out of place when you’re shirtless and sunburnt in a Muskoka chair.

So here’s to summer. May your drinks stay cold, your straps stay dry, and your lume stay strong long after the sun goes down.
