If there’s one thing I’ve learned about RZE over the years, it’s that they don’t just make watches—they build adventure-ready tools with the kind of thoughtful design that keeps you coming back for more. I’ve been a longtime fan of the brand, and I’m always rooting for Huiy and Travis, who have taken RZE from a microbrand darling to a legitimate powerhouse in the tool watch game. But now, with the UTD-8000, they’ve taken a bold leap into the world of digital watches. And you know what? They absolutely nailed it.

Key features of the RZE UTD-8000
DNA
At first glance, the UTD-8000 might seem like a departure from RZE’s usual fare, but spend a few minutes with it, and you’ll see that the DNA is all there. I had the chance to check out a pre-production prototype in the blue colorway, and let me tell you—it’s an absolute stunner. The angular titanium case, the UltraHex™ coating, and the unmistakable RZE design language make it instantly recognizable as part of the family.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “A digital watch? Isn’t that G-Shock territory?” And yeah, you’d be right to make the comparison. But here’s the kicker—while G-Shocks are fantastic, they don’t offer the featherweight toughness of a full-titanium case. RZE took everything we love about digital adventure watches and gave it a serious upgrade.
True North Tested
Designed and tested in the harsh Canadian North, the UTD-8000 is built to handle just about anything you throw at it—water, dust, corrosion, scratches, shocks, vibrations, and extreme temperatures. It’s got a custom low-temperature-resistant module with all the usual suspects: timekeeping, stopwatch, alarm, and auto-calendar. But it’s the execution that sets this one apart.

The display
The LCD display is large and exceptionally legible, framed by a minimalistic insert that keeps things clean and modern. And that UltraGlow aquamarine backlight? It’s crisp, vibrant, and gives off serious sci-fi vibes. The whole package is protected under an AR-coated sapphire crystal—because, of course, RZE wouldn’t settle for anything less.

Torx
Flipping the watch over, you’ll find a Torx screw-secured case back (child-safe, but more importantly, adventure-safe) embossed with the RZE logo. And in true RZE fashion, there’s a meticulously machined aluminum slice sandwiched between the case and the bezel (blue in this version), adding some visual depth to an already impressive design.
Strap and bracelet
Comfort-wise, the UTD-8000 is an absolute winner. It comes on a premium elasticized fabric strap that conforms to the wrist like a dream. But if you want to switch things up, the 20mm drilled lugs make it easy to swap in RZE’s titanium bracelet (which, let’s be honest, is the ultimate flex) or their ultra-comfortable FKM HexaFlex strap.

Built (and warrantied) for the long haul
One of my favorite things about this release? The lifetime warranty on the module. That’s right—the UTD-8000 isn’t just built to last; it’s guaranteed for life. And RZE has thoughtfully powered it with a CR2032 button cell battery, so you won’t need to hunt down some obscure power source when it’s time for a swap.

Final Thoughts
For those looking to get in early, the UTD-8000 will be available for pre-order at a launch price of $169 USD from March 20 to March 31, 2025. After that, pre-orders will continue at $199 USD, with the full MSRP set at $219 USD ($369 USD if you want it on the titanium bracelet). Deliveries are expected in June 2025, so the wait won’t be long.
Bottom line? RZE has done it again. The UTD-8000 is a bold step into digital, but it’s still unmistakably RZE—lightweight, tough, and adventure-ready. It’s a watch that proves you don’t have to choose between ruggedness and refinement. Whether you’re braving the Canadian tundra or just tackling your daily grind, this one’s got your back.
And honestly? I couldn’t be happier for Huiy, Travis, and the whole RZE team. They keep pushing boundaries, and I’ll keep cheering them on every step of the way.
#ASSEMBLEDFORADVENTURE, indeed.
