Last summer, Longines revamped the Conquest Collection. As part of that makeover, the brand introduced a new watch into the fold—the Conquest Chronograph. Our coverage of the release turned out to be one of the most popular articles on our website in 2023. Longines has also listed several of those models among its “Best Sellers.” This year, the Swiss watchmaker added to the stable with new colourways and a rubber strap option.

While some aficionados may be waiting for the possibility of a 40mm iteration in the wings, certainly the latest additions signal a commitment to the new line. Here, we were lucky enough to get hands on with the new Longines Conquest Chronograph in Blue (on the bracelet) and Green (on the rubber strap).

Key Features of the 2024 Longines Conquest Chronograph
Case
Both watches feature last year’s 42mm angular, compact case with pump pushers and an integrated crown guard. It’s a blend of brushed and polished surfaces with a fixed bezel and tachymeter scale. The crown and display case back are screw-down, offering up a sporty 100m of water resistance, as well.

The bezel insert is rendered in ceramic, and whether blue or green—as the case may be—it provides a stark contrast with the radially brushed, matte silver dials. Both are panda variants with matching tones in each of the three sub-registers; however, there is a third—and special—iteration available in a blue reverse panda that the brand has called the Marco Odermatt, after the Swiss downhill skier. The watches are 50.2mm lug to lug and 14.3mm.

Dial
The dials have a relatively clean layout, despite being replete with functionality. I put this down partly due to the lack of Arabic numerals. The slimmer, and more subtle, wedge-styled markers focus attention toward the centre of the watch. A coloured, sector-style chapter ring and angled rehaut further delineate the dial.

I think the lack of a date complication also contributes to the balanced and streamlined appearance. But no matter what, legibility is key here. The square printed plots at the end of each hour marker, as well as the dauphine hands have also been treated with Swiss Super-LumiNova.

The blue variant here has an additional pop of colour that we don’t get in the green. It’s the application of red in the aforementioned square hour indicators, the tip of the chronograph hand, and in two of the sub-dials. I find it quite attractive in the way it breaks the otherwise monochromatic scheme.
Conquest Chronograph Bracelet
Here, the blue chronograph is featured on the H-link bracelet introduced last year. It tapers significantly from 22mm at the lugs to 16mm at the butterfly clasp. However, the green sports the new textured rubber strap. Like the bracelet, the strap has a significant taper. It also has metal endlinks to match the case. I find this arrangement helps mitigate the size of the watch, ensuring a strong drape around the wrist. The deployant clasp, unlike that found on the bracelet, comes with a micro-adjustment system.

Movement
Both are powered by the Longines exclusive 4Hz L898.5, visible through the case back. It features a silicon hairspring and a 59-hour power reserve. The module-style of this movement does, however, contribute to the overall thickness.

Final Thoughts
Certainly, the resemblance of the Longines Conquest Chronograph to emblematic chronographs of the past is part of its mass appeal. Nods to the Daytona can not be ignored. Some might even see a little of Snoopy lurking in the new blue iteration. But ultimately, a chronograph is a chronograph. The automotive stylings and retro good looks of the Longines Conquest Chronograph stand on their own. With its clean layout and elevated design the watch makes quite a case for itself—particularly when you consider the price. I would still like to see a COSC-certified movement here, but it would not be a deal breaker. I love the new strap option, and if it were me, the watch would live on it.
Pricing & Availability
The 2024 Longines Conquest Chronograph retails for $3650USD ($4600CAD) on the strap and $3750USD ($4800CAD) on the bracelet. For more information, please visit the brand website.
