Elegance is an attitude
At a recent event in New York, Yannick Jenni, Vice President Sales International, announced to those assembled that Longines splits its sales 50/50 between men and women’s watches. It was a figure I had heard before, but not all brands can claim the same. The adoption of the motto “Elegance is an attitude,” alongside the enlistment of some very high profile female ambassadors (Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Winslet, and now Barbara Palvin, Zhao Ling, and the Korean sensation Suzy) demonstrate just how important this segment of the market is to the brand. As a result, you also get some pretty good watches–not the least of which is the Longines Conquest 34mm.

Last month, the Conquest collection was expanded to include three new colourways (Sunray Blue, Pink, and Green). While certainly elegant, the new models also offer up a dose of summer fun and sporty capability.

Key Features of Longines Conquest 34mm
The Conquest line has long been Longines’ answer to the everyday watch. The new models are no exception. The stainless steel cases measure a sleek 34mm in diameter and a very restrained 41.1mm lug to lug. At only 10.9mm thick, this sports watch is discreet enough for any occasion. While some elements of the case are polished, the design is full of finely chamfered edges, satin brushing, and sensuous lines. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Conquest name, and both the men and women’s collections are receiving new timepieces in a wide array of colours, including other sizes of 30, 38, and 42mm.

The Conquest 34mm offers up a robust 100m of water resistance, making it ideal for summer play by the lake or by the pool. It also sports a screw down case back with a sapphire exhibition pane. There you can see the Longines’ exclusive L888—an ETA-based calibre with a 72-hour power reserve. The movement also boasts a silicon balance spring, helping exceed ISO 764 standards by a multiple of ten.

The dials are the real story here, and Longines have chosen three lovely hues finished in a radial sunray brushing. The wedge-styled markers are highly polished and complement the rhodium plated dauphine hands. In the chapter ring, there is a fine minute track, offset by a sector-styled bevel that adds visual interest and depth. At six, there is also a simple date aperture—though it is not colour matched. All elements are equipped with Swiss Super-LumiNova for after hours legibility.

While not featured here, there is also a bi-material iteration with a rose gold bezel, available as diamond-set and without.

The watches come with a stainless steel H-link, featuring a folding clasp, or on a dial-matched rubber with a micro-adjusting buckle.

Final Thoughts
These new Longines Conquest iterations make a good argument for your one watch collection. They are a sharp, robust design with enough sparkle to be noticed, but enough distinction to match any occasion. With 100m of water resistance, you could meet any outdoor activity with confidence. Their discreet sizing makes them equally wearable at the office or the gym, as well. Considering their provenance–from a long-established Swiss maison–they are also surprisingly well priced for their specs and finish.
Pricing & Availability
The Longines Conquest 34mm retails for $2075USD ($2800CAD) on the bracelet, or $1975 ($2700CAD) on rubber. For more information, please visit the brand website.
